Umm... Note To Self: Just because God's plan doesn't look like the plan you had for yourself doesn't mean it isn't good. Reader , it has been a MINUTE since I've written one of these emails. Over a year, actually. 😭 And SO much has happened since then. There's been a lot of surrendering, a lot of learning, a lot of growing, and quite a few moments where the Lord has had to confront me about some things (unfortunately your girl likes to learn the hard way 🥴 but we're correcting that in Jesus name). But I'm really happy to be writing to you again. A few days ago, on October 3rd, I found myself going down memory lane, reading some of my old newsletters and watching replays from workshops I hosted a few years ago. And somewhere between reading those emails and watching myself teach, I became overwhelmed with gratitude. I think the gratitude was less about what I had accomplished during those seasons, and more about seeing just how faithful God had been through ALL of it. I could see how He was leading me, correcting me, teaching me, and using me, even when I didn't fully understand what He was doing, and my goofy butt was fighting Him almost the entire way. 😭 I think the reason I struggled so much was because, if I'm being completely transparent, I wanted God to bless the plans I had for my life, not necessarily surrender those plans to Him, let alone accept the plans He had for me. I had a vision for what I wanted to build, how I wanted to serve women, and what I thought success was supposed to look like. I had invested YEARS into building a business, creating resources, hosting workshops, and developing a community around the work I was passionate about. And there was fruit from those things! By His grace, God still works all things out for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). In fact, that was one of the things that made me so emotional while watching those old workshop recordings. I remembered how much I genuinely LOVED facilitating conversations and watching women experience breakthroughs as we worked through the things God was teaching them. But looking back, I can also see that God was leading me somewhere I wasn't necessarily willing to go. There were things He was asking me to surrender, directions He was redirecting me in, and steps He was asking me to take that didn't make sense according to the plan I had created for myself. And instead of appreciating His direction, I was frustrated by it. Looking back however, all I gotta say is Thank You For The Breadcrumbs! Because Reader, here I am, almost 10 years after God first placed YouTube on my heart, FINALLY giving it my full attention. What i find that's so interesting is that I'm experiencing a level of fulfillment that I honestly don't think I could've anticipated and I definitely could not have manufactured this AT ALL. To be honest with you, I don't have tens of thousands of subscribers. I'm not making a bunch of money from YouTube (or any money tbh). There aren't all these crazy accomplishments I can point to and say, "See! This is why God's plan was better!" But I'm genuinely content. I get to spend my days studying the Bible, creating resources, teaching what I'm learning, and having conversations with women about the things God has been teaching me over the years. And the more I do it, the more I recognize just how intentionally God has equipped me for this work. I'm naturally inclined to respond to the very problems I'm creating content about. I'm seeing evidence of effectiveness in how I'm able to communicate and help others understand what they're wrestling with. And perhaps one of my favorite parts is that the work itself is genuinely fulfilling to me. Which is actually something I've been studying recently in Romans 12, and it's what led me to create my newest resource, How to Know God's Plan for Your Life. And GIRL, the irony of me having just released a resource teaching women how to know God's plan for their lives after spending YEARS resisting His plan for mine is not lost on me. 😭 That's also part of why I'm so grateful. Because as I reflect on where I am today, I can see how God was using those previous seasons to teach me, mature me, and give me opportunities to exercise gifts I didn't even fully understand at the time. Even when I was frustrated with the direction, He was still at work in me. And now, I get to look back at those experiences with a completely different perspective. Again, all I gotta say is Thank You For The Breadcrumbs! I guess that's what I want to leave you with today, Reader... You might be in a season where God's direction doesn't look anything like what you had planned for yourself. You might be frustrated because you don't understand why certain things haven't worked out, why you've had to let go of something you really wanted, or why you can't seem to get the full picture of where He's leading you. Girl, I get it. 😭 But can I encourage you? I want you to consider what God might be doing in you and through you right where you are. One of the things I've come to appreciate about Romans 12:1–2 is that Paul calls us to surrender ourselves to God and have our minds renewed so that we can discern His will. And he describes that will as good, acceptable, and perfect. His will is worth surrendering to. Even when it doesn't look like what we would've chosen for ourselves. I'm still learning this, by the way. I still have desires, ideas, and things I'd LOVE to see happen. But I'm learning to hold those things with open hands and be faithful with what God has placed in front of me today. And I pray that you'll learn to do the same. ♡ Speaking of which, if you've been trying to figure out what God's plan for your life is, I recently released a free resource called How to Know God's Plan for Your Life. It's a biblical guide through Romans 12 to help you understand your place in the body of Christ, recognize how God has gifted you, and begin using those gifts right where you are.

P.S. These newsletters are based on the lessons that the Holy Spirit is actively (or has already been) teaching me. Never take my words as the bible. I encourage you to test my words against His word to prove whether or not they are based in truth. My hope is that these personal notes will give you insight into what it's like to be walking with the Lord, fr fr. I want to share the highs, the lows, and the many mistakes that happen in between. I pray that this encourages you to cultivate your relationship with God because truth is, He's been sharing personal notes with you too ♡ |
On a Personal Note is a newsletter written by a Christian girlie approaching 30 who is learning how to meaningfully participate in the life in front of her. In this season, i’m learning how to spend less time watching, comparing, overthinking, and waiting for life to happen—and more time actually tending to what God has placed in front of me: my faith, my mind, my relationships, my interests, my responsibilities, and my becoming. If you’re learning how to do the same, this space is for you. Every week or so, you can expect a recap of the content i published on youtube and a personal note recapping the lessons i'm learning as I participate in the life I'm called to.
Umm... Note To Self: There are benefits to Obedience. When you do it His way, you don’t have to work as hard. Hey Reader, girl don't I have a story for you! Earlier this year, the Lord told me to leave Instagram and go to YouTube. Not suggest. Not hint. Told. Now, when I first sensed this instruction, I honestly thought He was trippin’. Instagram had always been my “home base.” It was the platform that worked for me in entrepreneurship, the one I’d poured years into building. So naturally, I...
Note To Self: But did God really tell you to do that? 👀 Or are you just doing more things to delay the work God told you to do? Hold up Holy Spirit ✋🏾🤚🏾 was my exact response Reader to that question 😅. But it made me pause (again) and ask myself, "Rose, what did God call you to do?" And soberingly, I had to acknowledge that I was going beyond what God said. I was launching a workshop—something I knew would be powerful. But God confronted me with a reality I couldn’t ignore: "You can do it,...
